As the school year winds down and summer approaches, many of our Church Childcare Center families find themselves looking ahead, wondering what comes next for their child. Whether your little one is transitioning to Pre-K or getting ready to age out of their current classroom, this time of year brings exciting milestones and big emotions for both children and parents.

At Church Childcare Center, we believe that preparation starts long before the first day of school. That’s why our programs are intentionally designed to build the foundational skills your child needs for a confident transition into their next stage of learning—socially, emotionally, and academically.

What We’re Doing at the Center

Our Pre-K readiness focus is woven into daily routines. Through hands-on learning, structured play, and developmentally appropriate expectations, children are building the skills they need to thrive. These include:

  • Independence & Responsibility: We encourage self-help skills like cleaning up, hand washing routines, and managing belongings.
  • Social & Emotional Readiness: From turn-taking and teamwork to expressing emotions in healthy ways, our teachers guide children in building strong peer relationships.
  • Early Academics: Letter and number recognition, basic writing, sequencing, and listening comprehension are gently introduced and reinforced.
  • Routine & Transitions: Our daily schedules help children become comfortable with structure—a key part of success in Pre-K and beyond.

How Families Can Support the Transition at Home

You are your child’s first and most important teacher! Here are a few simple ways you can support Pre-K readiness at home:

  • Establish predictable routines like bedtime, mealtimes, and cleanup to help children feel secure and prepared.
  • Foster independence with small tasks like getting dressed, putting on shoes, or packing a backpack.
  • Read together daily, asking open-ended questions to build comprehension and language skills.
  • Practice social skills by arranging playdates or talking through real-life situations like sharing and waiting your turn.
  • Talk about the next step with excitement. Children often mirror your emotions—your confidence helps them feel secure.

When It’s Time to Move Forward

We know how hard it can be to watch your little one grow out of a space that’s become like a second home. But rest assured—whether your child is entering Pre-K or moving on to kindergarten, the foundation they’ve built here will carry them far. We’re honored to be part of their journey and are committed to supporting your family every step of the way.
